Tamara Baubie and Romina Profeta met years ago when Tamara was referred to Romina for physical therapy for a shoulder injury.

Years later, finding themselves at similar crossroads around 2020 looking to do something different, they started talking about their shared love of pilates and the power of the practice in helping people heal and get stronger.

After many long discussions, they agreed to go into business together, purchase studio space, bring their existing clients together while attracting new clients and with that Tower.Fit was born.

Tower.Fit is founded on the principles of STOTT PILATES® and adapted to allow us to work with both physical and cognitive limitations. Pilates involves significant amounts of divided attention and working memory. Pilates inherently challenges you to think about more than one thing at once, to consider how your pelvis is positioned, to know where your legs are in space and to control your breathing. This is why it is so great for people recovering from an injury or as a functional training method that minimizes risk of injury. But best of all, it feels good! In order to ensure this, Tower.Fit commits to only hiring experienced rehab professionals. Similarly, Tower.Fit also commits to having no more than 6 people in any group class.

Our Approach

Small Classes Ensure Safe Functional Training.

  • Tamara was introduced to pilates 18 years ago while doing physical therapy for a shoulder injury. As a Speech Pathologist and a Music Therapist, Tamara specialized in working with adults with neurological issues including traumatic brain injury and stroke. With an undergrad from Michigan State and a Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from Wayne State, Tamara has both the academic foundation and direct patient experience from years working at the Detroit Medical Center. She took great satisfaction in supporting her patients as they regained their neurological function but got frustrated when insurance capped the number of visits before Tamara felt they were fully healed. The pandemic gave Tamara an opportunity to re-evaluate her direction and she made the decision to move into teaching STOTT PILATES with an emphasis on restoration with plans to introduce speech pathology as well.

  • Romina graduated from Wayne State University with a Master’s degree in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy and started working as a physical therapist in outpatient orthopedics first at St. John Outpatient and then at the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) where she has been since 2006. She fell in love with the opportunity of uncovering what was wrong with her patients and then working with them to heal. So much so that she almost decided to go to medical school but instead realized that physical therapy was where she belonged. She went back to school, completed her orthopedic residency training and earned her Graduate Certificate in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy followed by a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) through Oakland University.  Romina discovered pilates on her own and quickly realized how helpful it could be for her patients with spinal injuries. Eventually, the DMC purchased a Reformer and asked Romina to start incorporating it into her physical therapy and in training her colleagues. Romina is still active teaching in the Wayne State’s physical therapy program and makes sure to share her experience incorporating Pilates into physical therapy.
